The Best Things to do in Miyazaki Japan 2021

Miyazaki is a place that when you arrive and after you visit a few shrines & have an Onsen you wonder what’s great fun to do.

So many of my family are like that, that arrive here and then wonder what on. The town is set up for Japanese Toursim and not really catering for non Japanese reading tourists. With that in mind my company was born but also this list and the Best guide to Miyazaki Japan in 2020, Mountains , Oceans , Rivers & Shrines and Golf.

Miyazaki City-

Is the capital of  Miyazaki prefecture it’s located in the bottom right hand corner of Japan looking down at a map , its one of the warmer climates in JAPAN and as such has a large number of resorts. The  beaches and sports facilities around Miyazaki used to be famous in side of Japan as THE  honeymoon  location during the 80s and after the bubble hit it sort of got left behind.

All  year round its a stunning day out.

There are so many simple amazing locations to venture into Miyazaki mountains.

The hardest thing about the hiking in Miyazaki is finding trails.  With no English signage to speak of for the starting point , so either , allow us to show you the trails that we love. Or  reach out to us for some information if you want to go it alone. Good luck.

SourceDiving… in Japan?

Miyazaki Japan is known for samurais and sushi, but not for  diving.

It’s often overlooked in favor of more popular dive destinations like Thailand or the Philippines.

But if you take the opportunity to explore Japan’s waters and you’ll be surprised.

With a bit of research and patience, ice diving, tropical diving and a huge range of marine life are all within easy reach for visitors and residents of Japan.

The diving here is spread out over Japan’s territory, so getting to all destinations in one trip is not a realistic option. But if you are intrigued by this overlooked archipelago, speak to us to help introduce you to a lot of unique dive experiences Miyazaki Diving  has to offer.

#3 – Get a Surf Lesson or a Guide

Miyazaki is easily Japans Best Surfing Location.

Miyazaki Surf Pumps – If you want to learn to surf in 2021 or you completely rip, Miyazaki surfing  has it all . They are so many high level surfers in this town its should be named after one of its famous breaks .  From Currens point, Nagata left or great beach breaks this place has it all.
Check out surf Guide Tour in Miyazaki. (We take you where others won’t and we film and capture the day for you to enjoy later )

Haading back to the 90 surfings boom decade , Miyazaki has previously held a position on the equivalent of a WCT international surf competition circuits due to its diverse variety of punchy reefs, refined groomed  river mouths , points, river mouths, and beach breaks and one of the funnest Wave pools that has existed prior too the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch. Adding to a amazing surfing destination and  elevated status   is the backdrop on which it is painted.

Jaw-dropping mountainous terrain, super chill vibe & low crowds  against the slowly setting sun on the Pacific Ocean leaves even the most experienced of surfers and sightseers stunned. On weekends and holidays, you may often see a crowd, however, in comparison to some of the world’s more popular surf spots, Miyazaki surrounding Beaches aren’t especially overcrowded.

Below you see few videos to get an idea of the vibe of Miyazaki Surf and beaches plus the old wave pool , Owen Wright , Julian Wilson going back a few years ago.

Miyazaki Weather

#5 – Miyazaki After Dark – Eat until you cant stop

Miyazaki Beef

This one goes without saying , its good , its world famous and for treason , its so soft and tender , it literally melts in your mouth. Be warned though its expensive , and you dont eat much. Just a bite or two is enough for me.. Miyazaki is a Prefecture(宮崎県, Miyazaki-ken) in the southeastern coast of Kyushu island, in Japan.

Known for its beautiful mountainous and coastal scenery, Miyazaki has a good, warm weather all year around, which positively affects the quality of the meat; while Miyazaki Wagyu Council teaches farmers how to breed cattle and strictly controls the bloodline of bulls that can be classed as Miyazaki Wagyu.

There are four unique Wagyu breeds raised in Japan: Japanese Black (黒毛和種 Kuroge Washu), Japanese Brown (赤毛和種 Akage Washu), Japanese Shorthorn (日本短角和種 Nihon Tankaku Washu) and Japanese Polled (無角和種 Mukaku Washu)
Miyazaki Wagyu (or Miyazaki-gyu) is Japanese Black Wagyu, which accounts for 90% of Wagyu raised in Japan and is world-renowned for its genetic predisposition to developing fine-grained, speckled marbling and a buttery, tender texture

Miyazaki Sashimi

Sashimi (刺身) is thinly sliced, raw food. It is one of the most famous dishes in the Japanese cuisine. Miyazaki Seafood is incredible and to enjoy a very authentic experince you should eat as is most commonly eaten here as sashimi. Some people confuse sashimi with sushi. Unlike sashimi, sushi includes vinegared rice.
Sashimi dishes are available at so many types of restaurants here in Miyazaki. They are also popularly used in teishoku set meals and are a standard dish of traditional kaiseki course meals. The slices of raw food are often presented arranged atop of a bed of shredded daikon and garnished with shiso leaves.
If you have never tried raw fish Miyazaki is the place.

Jidori Chicken

For me the absolute favorite food to eat in Miyazaki Japan is Jidori chicken. Apparently only native to two locations in the world and here is on elf them . Miyazaki is famous with Japan for its wild fowl . Its super chewy , but dont be discouroughed , the flavor far out weigh the texture , to say its full of flovor docent even come close to describing its flavor. .

Miyazaki Chicken Nanban

Chicken nanban is chicken fried in oil, dipped lightly in sugared vinegar and then finished off with a tartar sauce topping. A dish that is often seen in eateries throughout Miyazaki Prefecture. Dont be Mistaken maybe all Japanese dishes are super healthy but this is one of the most famous or iconic dishes of Miyazaki and a must to try.
Depending on the restaurant the meat quality can differ between juicy thigh meat and fresh tasting wing meat. The tartar sauce taste can also differ, making this a popular dish liked by people of all ages.

#6 – Drink Shochu & Enjoy.

Miyazaki Shochu

Shochu – In the north of Japan people drink Sake , in the south its Shochu . Served Hot or Cold with a mixer or with out .
Kirishima Shochu is agueably the most famous for the prefecture and its exported all over the world. Best bit is you can get it at nearly any 7-11.

What is Miyazaki Shochu(焼酎)…?

Shochu is a Japanese distilled spirit beverage which contains about 25% (some kinds can go up to 40% alcoholic content). Unlike sake which is a brewed alcohol made from rice only, shochu is made from many kinds of ingredients such as Japanese sweet potatoes, barley, rice, and buckwheat.

And perhaps the most interesting bit is Its unique taste and high alcohol by volume content have been the reasons why Japanese drunkards have loved it since time began!

Shochu was originally made in the Kyushu region, but nowadays it is produced in all locations throughout Japan and shipped around the world. .

You can enjoy shochu just like whiskeys and any other kinds of spirit, for instance, on the rock, diluted with water, with soda, and it even is mixed with Japanese teas to make a true Japanese cocktail! If you head into a convenience store most sell mixes from about $1.50 a can and up.

How is Shochu Served?

There are so many ways you can enjoy your shochu that it’s almost impossible to list them all! Here are the most popular styles.

Straight

In order to enjoy the real taste of distilled beverages, trying them straight is always your best choice. Shochu is no exception. Shochu doesn’t need to be cooled before being drunk. Actually, you may try it at different temperatures to see how the taste changes.

On the rock

On the rock or Shochu rock if your at a bar and need to order , is Shochu on ice ,  style is probably the most popular way to enjoy Japanese shochu.  Fill the glass with ice and pour in your favorite shochu. As the ice melts, the unique sweet smell of shochu will flourish. Be careful not to let the ice melt too much since your shochu may become too watery for that real “on-the-rocks” sochu taste.

Whats Umeshu and why is it so delicious?

Yes, umeshu is a type of shochu drink. Umeshu (plum wine) is made by adding Japanese plums and iced sugar into shochu. It takes almost a whole year for it to be ready. The recipe is very simple and surprisingly easy to make! All you need to do is just mix the basic ingredients and let it rest. Beware , its super easy to consume , super delicious , and can be potent. ENJOY.

The Shrines We Love Delivered By Video.

#7 – Aoshima Jinja Video.

#6 Udo Jingu Video

https://youtu.be/UOVGEv4QEsUUdo-jingū is a Shinto shrine about 45 minutes south of Miyazaki City and is simply Stunning. Udo shrine is in a cave in the side of the cliff, near the Nichinan coast of Miyazaki. The honden, or main shrine, is in a cavern with a spectacular view of the ocean. In the cave is the ochichi iwa, or “breast stone,” a dripping stone which is said to have fed the kami Ugayafukiaezu, father of the first emperor of Japan, when his mother returned to the sea.The shrine sells a candy made from the water of this stone, mizuame, a kind of taffy. In the slight distance of the cavern is a rocky island with two peaks. Attendees can purchase small clay balls and attempt to toss them between the peaks for good luck It is the mythical birthplace of Emperor Jimmu’s father Yamasachihiko, dedicated to Ugayafukiaezu, Amaterasu, Amenooshihomimi, Ninigi-no-Mikoto, Hoori and Emperor Jimmu. The shrine is popular with young couples hoping for easy childbirth and a happy marriage.YouTube All pictures, sounds, music by: © shiso2012 思想会社 Shiso Productions
